I chose my profile picture with deliberation. A rainbow in a cloud of grey, intimating the bright side of life -beauty after the storm and oh what a storm I have endured, though I am certain still not as horrible as many other people...
My story is complicated but I will make it as brief and simple as possible.
Let me begin with the cold hard, and painful facts, one being that since 1998 I have been unable to sustain employment -specifically because I suffer from Bipolar Disorder, though I was not diagnosed until 2000.
Unemployment has never been an issue in the past 19 years as I was a semi-happily married housewife who was quasi-doted upon by a loving, faithful and devoted husband who was quite content supporting me, due somewhat to his love, and somewhat to his emotional control.
However, following some kind of personal crisis my younger husband suffered while away to a funeral in the end of August of 2013 my world as I had come to know it, was utterly shattered, and I am now after 17 years of marriage (19 together) and at 56 years old basically starting my life over with a temporary income supplied by the government and a small monthly amount from my ex.
Sad? Yes -I was heartbroken! Maybe...
However, as it turns out this separation was the best possible thing that could have ever happened to me.
My motto, for a few years now has been 'Everything happens for a reason', and even this very unexpected and heart wrenching break up -as much as I hate to admit it, -was indeed meant to happen as well, specifically at this point in my life, I am thinking so I could regain the control of my life after having lost it during my marriage. I had been stagnating.
Struggling on a minimum of finances, striving to rebuild my life, I was suddenly bombarded by an epiphany while in the local Ontario Works office early for counseling, I found myself browsing the shelves and bulletin boards because I enjoy reading, and became piqued by everything JOBS -including poorly written résumés, and job postings.
In those few short minutes of perusal and critiquing, I decided, following years of writing free and (apparently) very well-written résumés and portfolios for family and friends to start-up my own résumé business as a precursor to my re-entrance into the world of the productive.
Later on during research for my project, I eventually came to the conclusion, just like most professions today, to gain the edge over the competition, having some kind of certification can make or break you, thus I decided to become a CRS - a Certified Résumé Strategist who could eventually solely support myself rather than relying on the government or my ex-husband!
This is a venture I would never have embarked upon while married -I had been encouraged to do so before but had never found the motivation. And here we come to the proverbial rainbow amid the clouds.
Everything DOES happens for a reason. Even a broken heart can been turned into something wonderful.
PLEASE REPEAT THIS TO YOURSELF WHEN LIFE IS THROWING YOU CURVE-BALLS:
EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON, SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO SEARCH A LITTLE DEEPER THROUGH THE BLACK STORM TO FIND THE BRIGHTNESS OR THE RAINBOW. DON'T EVER GIVE UP. THE GOOD WILL COME.
Back to my PLAN; I have currently been dealing with a government organization in Kitchener to assist me with courses, programs and any other information needed to embark on this incredible new journey with the hope of bringing my business plan into fruition.
An interesting fact, all four of my brothers started their own business, but I am the only one who has been encouraged by numerous people and organizations to start up a business on my own because I have the ideas, motivation and the business acumen to surpass any of their ventures with a higher profit margin. Most of them agree.
I am booked for free information sessions online and in person regarding business strategies. And I have paid programs with certificates lined up once I collect enough funds, or start making money.
The reason behind my business; many people find writing résumés a challenge and a chore. I ENJOY writing, proof reading, critiquing and researching anything that has to do with résumé writing and the compilation for them. In fact I have been researching a plan of action for a couple of years now, gathering information to write up my business plan! I even asked a new friend how to go about raising money to assist me in my venture and it was his idea to check out crowd-funding sites!
What an amazing tool, though a few years ago something like this would never have occurred to me, but I will try anything at least once.
I have great qualities as a business owner; I am a perfectionist. Detail oriented. Organized and motivated, not only by the monetary aspect of self-employment but the idea of becoming independent from government support as well as driven to succeed .
The only obstacle I might face is that I have Bipolar Disorder. However, that fact in itself is motivation to drive me so I can encourage other challenged people to embrace life - to get out into the world and make their mark!
What I don't understand or know, I will find out. I'm a sponge for knowledge.
All I am asking for is the start-up costs of my business. I don't even have an issue setting things up as a loan or donations or with rewards for donations such as free résumé services.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR VOTING FOR ME!!! SO EXCITING.
Thank you to anyone who has ideas, or donations. :)
